Assam and Meghalaya – Assamazing Adventures and Meghalicious Delights
Kulchas, Chaos, and History: My Unforgettable Amritsar Journey
Hello all! Just got back from an incredible trip to Amritsar, and let me tell you, it was an experience that went way beyond the usual tourist stuff. We ditched the typical Golden Triangle route and dove headfirst into the heart of Punjabi culture.
Golden Temple: A Spiritual Symphony
My Amritsar adventure began at the awe-inspiring Golden Temple, also known as the Harmandir Sahib. The minute I saw that majestic gold dome shimmering on the Sarovar (pool), I knew I was in for something special. The peaceful chanting of hymns washed over me, and witnessing the langar, the free community kitchen, was truly humbling. Remember, folks – cover your head and dress respectfully, it’s a sign of respect for their traditions.

A Culinary Adventure for the Senses
After feeling all zen at the Golden Temple, my stomach started rumbling. Amritsar is a haven for street food, and I embarked on a delicious mission to conquer some of the legends!
Pro Tip: Remember to carry cash for these street food vendors!

Witnessing the Wagah Border Ceremony
As the sun dipped below the horizon, I made my way to the Wagah Border for the daily closing ceremony. The atmosphere was electric! Shoulder-to-shoulder with thousands of other enthusiastic spectators (think a sea of waving flags!), I witnessed the synchronized lowering of flags by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) and the Pakistani Rangers. The energy was palpable, a mix of patriotic fervor and energetic displays that was truly a sight to behold. I even managed to squeeze in a few friendly chit-chats with some of the policemen managing the crowd, adding a personal touch to this unforgettable experience.
Pro Tip: Get there early to snag a good viewing spot!
Jallianwala Bagh: A Haunting Reminder
Day two started with a visit to Jallianwala Bagh, a public garden that witnessed a horrific tragedy in 1919. Hundreds of innocent people were killed by British troops here. Walking through the chilling corridors, I saw the bullet marks on the walls – a stark reminder of the past.
Remembering Bhagat Singh’s Legacy
Exploring Jallianwala Bagh, I paid my respects at the memorial dedicated to the revolutionary freedom fighter, Shaheed Bhagat Singh. His powerful quote etched on the walls resonated deeply: “They may kill me, but they cannot kill my ideas. They can crush my body, but they will not be able to crush my spirit.”
Unwinding in Style: Country Inn & Hall of Heritage
After a day steeped in history, I retreated to the luxurious comfort of the Country Inn & Hall of Heritage. This heritage hotel was the perfect place to unwind, offering a unique blend of traditional charm and modern amenities.
